FAQ For Parishioners
Is the app free to use?
Yes! Right now we are offering the app to new parishes for free while we work on getting the system perfected.
Who has access to use the app?
Parishioners of Parishes that are on the app. Right now that is only Parishioners at St. Mark the Evangelist in Norman, OK. We hope to grow our user base soon!
Can I adjust the amount of notifications I receive?
You should receive a notification for all new posts, which is a great way to stay up-to-date on what’s new in the app.
If you want to adjust the notifications to help your experience on the app you can go to Settings > Notification Settings > then turn off the notifications you don’t want to see anymore.
Why is my profile in a pending status?
Every new user must be approved by the Parish Admin before they can access the full app. This prevents outside users from accessing personal information that is shared by individuals within the app, specifically in the Parish Directory. We are trying our best to keep Acts of Love a safe corner of the internet to allow connection in your community, in order to do that we will need your patience and understanding.
All users must be a registered parishioner at the parish they are joining.
All users must be 18+
New users have to be able to prove their home address with a moderator in order to prove their identity.
How do I set up my Parish Directory page?
Welcome to Acts of Love, let’s get started! You want to open the app > open the Main Menu in the top left corner > hit Parish Directory > your name should be at the top of the list, click on it to open your page > scroll to the bottom > hit Edit Details
Once you are in the Add Personal Information page the top three boxes is your personal information, no one else can see those details, if you would like to share it with your parish you can check the box that is on the left of the screen, whichever boxes you select will show on your directory page, (e.g. if you check the email box only your email will show, your phone number and home address will remain hidden)
The lower boxes are an optional questionnaire, with details like your birthday and your personal interests, etc.
Once you have completed all of that make sure you hit Save Changes to make those answers public.
How do I set up my Family Page in the Parish Directory?
Open the app > open the Main Menu > Parish Directory > open your page > open Family > click the plus in the top right corner > add your family members and a photo > Save Changes
How do I change my contact information?
You can email us at support@actsofloveapp.com and specify what needs to be updated.
How do I reset my password?
If you are logged in: Open the Main Menu > Settings > Change password
If you forgot your password: when logging in at the bottom of the page switch to Login with Email > hit forgot password > enter your email, you should receive an email with a one time passcode > enter that 4 digit code > then you can create a new password and login
How do I add or change my profile and parish directory pictures?
To add a photo go to Setting > User Information > hit the plus at the bottom of the screen under Upload Photo > Save Photo > wait for approval, you will receive a notification when it has been approved by a moderator
If you already have a photo and want to change it, follow the same steps as above but you will have to delete the current photo first. You can add a different photo to your directory page by opening your Parish Directory page > hit the edit button that looks like a pencil at the top right of the picture
How do I submit a Prayer Request or Praise Post?
Once in the Prayers & Praises page hit the plus in the top right corner > select between a prayer or a praise then fill out the rest of the details > after you hit submit a moderator will review the post and assuming everything is appropriate for the community they will approve the post and everyone will receive a notification that you posted a new prayer or praise.
How do I submit a Goods or Service post?
Open the Main Menu > select Goods & Services > select Goods > hit the plus in the top right corner > fill out the details > after you hit submit, a moderator will review the post and, assuming everything is appropriate for the community, they will approve the post and everyone will receive a notification that you posted a new Good.
The same system is set up for Services.
How do I submit a Seeking Advice post?
Open the Main Menu > select Seeking Advice > hit the plus in the top right corner > write out your question > after you hit Post Question, a moderator will review the post and, assuming everything is appropriate for the community, they will approve the post and everyone will receive a notification that you posted a Question.
How do I submit a new Announcement post?
Open the Main Menu > select Announcements > hit the plus in the top right corner > fill out the details and add an image > after you hit Submit, a moderator will review the post and, assuming everything is appropriate for the community, they will approve the post and everyone will receive a notification that you posted an Announcement.
How do I message another user?
To message another user, you can look up their name in the parish directory and then hit Send Message. This will create a new message to that user.
To message a ministry lead, you can go to their ministry page, and at the bottom of the page it will say Send Message this will create a new message to the leader of that ministry.
Why is my post in a pending status?
Your post might be pending if it is waiting on moderator approval, if you are concerned that it has not been seen by a moderator yet, you can contact your Parish Admin or support at support@actsofloveapp.com.
What if I run into a technical issue with the app?
Try updating or restarting the app first. If that doesn’t help, try removing the app from your device and re-downloading it.
If the issue persists, contact support with details and a screenshot if possible.
If it turns out to be a bug, letting us know helps us improve the app for everyone.
How do I become a follower or member of a ministry?
Open the ministry directory under Ministries on the Main Menu > select the ministry you want to join
To become a follower, hit Follow Ministry
To become a member, first make sure you are a follower, then message the Ministry Leader requesting to be made a member of the ministry. If they don’t respond, you can also message the leader by finding their page in the parish directory and sending them a message that way.
Can I hide certain information from other users in the directory?
Yes, by default, your email address, phone number, and home address is private.
To manage your visibility settings: Go to Main Menu > Parish Directory > Tap Your Name > Scroll down to Edit Details. At the top of the page, you'll see three checkboxes next to your personal info.
Checked = visible to others
Unchecked = hidden
How do I report inappropriate content or behavior?
We have moderators who review all content before it’s posted to help prevent anything inappropriate from being shared.
If something does slip through—or if you're receiving inappropriate or uncomfortable messages—please report it to support@actsofloveapp.com and notify your parish office.
If you know who your Parish Admin is in the app, we recommend contacting them first, as they can quickly remove inappropriate content from public view.
Will members at other parishes be able to see my information?
No, this is a private app, and only users from your parish can see your posts and profile.
We’ve chosen to keep parishes separated to help strengthen community within each individual church.
Is there a desktop version of the app or just mobile?
There is only a mobile app right now.
Can teenagers/youth use the app?
This app is for 18+ only.
This is to help protect the personal privacy of minors and to minimize the risk of inappropriate communication and unmonitored contact.
How do I name a reference on a Service that I want to provide?
When creating your new service post, you’ll see a section called References. There, you can add your reference’s name and include an image of that individual.
In a future update, we plan to allow you to select parishioners directly from the Parish Directory.
How long will my post be public?
All posts are automatically deleted after a set period. The exact duration depends on your account type and the type of post. For example, a prayer or praise shared by a parishioner will stay up for three weeks, while a prayer shared by a priest will remain for 30 days.
FAQ For Parish Staff
How do I get a Ministry account?
Reach out to your Parish Admin. If you're not sure who that is, you can email us at support@actsofloveapp.com and we’ll help connect you with the right person. Before creating a new ministry account, please note that each account requires a unique email address—having that ready will help speed up the process.
How do I set up my Ministry page?
Open the Ministries page from the Main Menu > hit the plus in the top right corner > fill out all of the sections, and add as many as you need, you can also rearrange them by clicking the up & down arrows to the right of the section number > add a photo for the top of the ministry page > Save Changes
How do I change my Ministry logo in the app?
Your ministry logo is your profile picture. Open Main Menu > Settings > User Information > then upload a photo > Save Photo
How do I add a new Upcoming Event?
Open the main menu > select Upcoming Events > hit the plus in the top right corner > fill out the details and add an image > after you hit Submit everyone will receive a notification that you posted a new Event, and it will be visible in the list of events.
Can I send a message to the Followers & Members of my ministry?
Yes! Ministry leads can go to the Ministries tab > click Followers in the top right > then tap the purple button labeled Send Message to Followers. To message members instead, go to the Members tab and click the purple Send Message to Members button.
How do I add members to my ministry?
Parishioners can choose to follow any ministry on their own. Ministry leads can promote followers to members by opening Ministries > clicking on Followers > Add > then toggling the switch next to the follower’s name from grey to purple. This will make them a member, and they’ll receive a notification about the update.
I have a parish staff account, can I use that account for my ministry?
That’s a fair question, we understand having to manage multiple accounts can be tricky. We recommend having a specific Ministry account for each ministry that you are leading, so that if you transfer controls of the account it can easily be given to the next person in charge. Also, the ministry logo is the same as your profile picture, so you would be limited to only one image for multiple ministries or for your staff picture.
